VAT Rate in Uganda

The Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax levied on goods and services at each stage of the production or distribution chain. The standard VAT rate in Uganda is 18%, but some goods and services apply a lower rate or are exempt.

Uganda VAT Exempt

The zero percent (0%) rate applies to the following goods and services in Uganda:

  • Supplies of exported goods or services.
  • International transportation of goods.
  • Educational materials.
  • Seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and hoes.
  • Medicines and medical miscellaneous articles manufactured in Uganda.
  • Leased aircraft, aircraft engines, spare engines, spare parts for aircraft and aircraft maintenance equipment.
  • Grains, where grains are grown and milled in Uganda.
  • Sanitary towels and tampons and inputs for their manufacture.
  • Services provided by National Medical Stores in connection with donor-funded medical supplies.

Note: According to the Finance Act of 2022, reduced the VAT rate on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from 16% to 8%.
